The Chester Art Beat is a win-win community event!

The Chester Art Beat is a totally free event for all ages.
The Chester Art Beat attracts visitors to spend time discovering our beautiful city.
We are supporting mainly local artists, some of whom are well established and some who are just starting out (some are recent University of Chester graduates). Artists pay an entry fee to the event, but we take no sales commission from them.
Venues are generously given free of charge and benefit from increased exposure, footfall, and the stimulation of revenue that comes from this event.
To help support students in their studies, visual arts ‘A’ level students from all the high schools in Chester are invited to meet the artists and watch them at work.
We have placed two of our artists in the University of Chester’s CASC Gallery during its 2022 visual arts degree show exhibiting the work of 120 students.
People hoping to increase their creativity and improve their emotional wellbeing are being invited to walk the trail too. We want them to be encouraged to see how art, craft and design can be a fabulous means of self-expression, self-discovery, therapeutic healing, and a fabulously fulfilling career – bringing hope in dark times.
Local families with your children: you are invited to walk the Chester Art Beat! And anyone can enter a competition prize draw to win art and craft materials to help them with their own creative making. Children love following the map and searching for the competition clues!
We aim to have fabulous community volunteers who will be on hand to engage with the public, drawing attention to the trail and venues and artists. We are very grateful to those who get involved! They will be wearing purple Chester Art Beat bibs.
At certain times, some of the artists will be offering the chance to ‘have a little go’ for FREE (look for the green hand at their work station). Most notably is the opportunity for the public to join in with returning artist Aleta Doran commissioned in the Chapter house of the Cathedral to make a beautiful mosaic for Claire House Children’s Hospice which will be installed in their butterfly garden. Aleta’s FREE ‘have a little go’ opportunity is available throughout the event. PLEASE NOTE: Some artists will charge a fee for having a go as part of their normal work. Artists who are charging will NOT be displaying the ‘have a little go’ green hand. Disclaimer: All ‘have a little go’ activities (free or not) are done entirely at the public’s own risk.
