VENUES 2022
FREE EVENT IN MANY VENUES THROUGHOUT THE CITY 2022:
Fri-Sat 1/2 July 10am-5pm Sun 3 July 11am-4pm
“It was great . . . to be using a variety of venues: we felt that this gave the artwork a context which encouraged us to look at some things more closely than we might have done otherwise . . . Not knowing exactly what to expect in each place gave us a sense of discovery . . . We felt we benefited from the walk between venues: it gave us some space to absorb what we had seen, to discuss and to look forward to what we might see next; we felt relaxed about being able to take things in rather than the feeling of information overload that we have so often felt when we visit museums or art galleries . . .”
Look out for our venue signs.
(Downloadable arrow signs are at the bottom of this page for venues who for any reason need to print more than we give you.)
Venues 1 & 3 are street locations with open viewing all the time.
Please click on the venue image below to link to its website.
Our trail map only shows some of the parking possibilities in the city – see here for more.
You’ll find plenty of places to eat and drink (plus toilets) amongst our venues. Just a few have no wheelchair access usually due the nature of old Chester buildings.
CWaC: click: ‘City Centre Chester Access: A Guide for Disabled People”.
Please note the above guide does not show Hunter Street where Storyhouse is – please use our trail map. Neither maps fully show the current major developments around Northgate Street which are yet to be completed.
Please note: Storyhouse, Venue 17, has a ‘Changing Places’ toilet facility.
Some Venue Feedback from 2022
“We loved being part of the Chester Art Beat as it allowed people to explore the city in such a unique and creative way. We welcomed our artist to our store and she got such a great response from both new and regular customers.” Venue Host
“This was an excellent opportunity for us to reach a new audience and promote the work of the gallery.” Venue Host
Venues told us:
- There was an increased buzz about the venue, particularly in the light of recent quietness in the town
- Staff members were commenting that it was great to have something different there
- They loved it – were delighted with their artist who was a perfect match – and were keen to get their marketing team behind it
Venues thought the Chester Art Beat was:
- A perfect way to showcase and raise the profile of the venue which is relatively new in the city
- Great for their community venue
- Ideal for adding colour and footfall for the venue
- Went so well and they are considering hosting artists there in the future (besides from the Chester Art Beat)
